Man jumps from topmost floor of his building to evade arrest and dies

The Abesan Housing Estate, in the Ipaja area of Lagos State was on Monday struck with tragedy when a man known as  Njamasi Richard, jumped from a building and died.

Richard Njamasi, a husband and a father jumped off from the two-storey building when policemen from the Ipaja division of Lagos state came to arrest him . They came to arrest him for fraud.

Earlier before the incident happened, a man identified as Ajagunjeun, had reported to the police that Richard allegedly defrauded him of a sum of 24million naira. When the policemen at Richard's house to arrest him, he jumped off through the back door of his flat, a two storey building block and was unconscious.

He was rushed to a private hospital for treatment and was referred to Igando General Hospital Lagos where he died on Tuesday.

A resident said Richard Njamasi action and death was a shock.  He said, “ Richard Njamasi and his family lived in Flat 6, which is on the topmost floor of the building. He was not a youth as he had children old enough to be married. On that Monday, what we heard was that as he got the news that some policemen were climbing the stairs to arrest him, he jumped down from the back door of his flat and that was all.  “He is trying to evade police arrest, but that was not smart.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident. Richard Njamasi’s corpse had been deposited in a morgue.
