Men of the Lagos state Rapid Response Squad have arrested 29 year old Lucky Udeagwu (pictured) who is a member of a suspected 3 man gang that specializes in vandalizing and stealing cables meant for the power up Lagos Project.
Lucky was caught 3am Saturday 2nd of April by the police officers in Ogudu Lagos State.
He was caught with with 35 metre long cable of the Light Up Lagos Project.
When Lucky was interrogated by the State Police, he denied ever committing the crime. He said he was on his way in search of a job at Ikorodu at about 3am when he saw two young men carrying a bag filled with cables.
Lucky said the young men then dumped the bag and took to their heels when they sighted police men on patrol.
Lucky also said he too then took to his heels but was shortly arrested by the officers after they were in pursuit of him and finally caught up with him.
When the State police caught up with Lucky, they found a bag on him. After the bag was searched the police found tools in the likes of spanner and screwdrivers.
Lucky they said he usually use to tools to service his generator which he had sold about a year ago.
The police spoke person said the suspect was sighted coming out of the bush towards Ogudu Bus Stop by Rapid Respond Squard operatives. “Early this Saturday morning, Lucky and two other guys were sighted carrying a big sack coming towards Ogudu Bus Stop. Because it was a straight road, we could see them from afar. When they sighted the police they immediately dropped the bag at the Bus Stop and took to their heels. The 3 men ran in different directions but Lucky was unlucky. The police caught up with him. The bag then went bag to the bag they dropped at the bus stop, we found it was a 35 meter long armoured cable".
