1933 rare coin sells for £72,000 at auction

A rare old penny was last week sold for a whopping £72,000. The 1933 Lavrillier Pattern Penny broke a world record for any copper or bronze coin sold at auction

You may wander why the Penny is so valuable? The 1933 pennies are extremely rare because only 7 pennies were made bearing the 1933 date, and they were for ceremonial and record purposes.

One of the penny is being stored in the Royal Mint Museum, while the others have private owners.

Hunter joined Leeds aged 15 and went on to play 726 matches in all competitions for the club - the fourth-highest individual total in their history. Hunter won the First Division title in 1969 and 1974, helped them beat Arsenal in the 1968 League Cup final, and then returned to Wembley in 1972 as Leeds defeated the Gunners to win the FA Cup. He also played in the 1975 European Cup final defeat by Bayern Munich in Paris. The England national team said they were saddened by Norman Hunter's death and that all of our thoughts are with his family, friends and supporters.
