David Dunstan, 42, launched an attack on Carolyn Hyatt, 43, in the early hours of August 6 last year at his mum's home. He smashed her over the head with a metal bar and walking stick before pouring white spirit over her body and igniting it.

Carolyn managed to survive and managed to make a desperate emergency call, she was rushed to hospital, but she died days later.

David Dunstan was sentenced to life in prison and ordered to serve a minimum of 24 years before he is eligible for parole.
