Refugees must surrender all firearms in 3 days



Congo and Burundi refugees at Nyarugusu and Nduta camps in Kigoma Region has been given a three day ultimatum to surrender all firearms to the police posts within the camps.

Prime Minister Kasimu Majaliwa gave the ultimatum on Wednesday when he visited the two camps. Speaking at the Nyarugusu camp, said refugees in possession of firearms are required to surrender them.

He assured those who will voluntarily surrender their firearms, they will not be penalised but warned that after the deadline, the police will embark on a crackdown to uncover all hidden firearms and legal action will be taken against those found with it.

He, prime minister also emphasised on the importance of cleanliness at the camps citing the threat of a potential disease outbreak. He also reminded the refugees to be careful and cautious of HIV/ AIDS infections and warned that the rate of infections in the area has dramatically increased.

No fewer than 10 people have been confirmed dead and 5 critically injured in a motor accident at Abia Tower roundabout, Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria.  The fatal accident involved a commercial bus with Plate Number AKL-895YY and a truck.
