Shalom said she was burned by hot oil at her mother's restaurant when she was 9 years old. Shalom endured bitter years of misery after she was burnt. Shalom hair was lost, her shoulders, face and chest was also burnt.

Shalom a Nigerian by birth said she was bullied and called names after she left the hospital in Nigeria. Shalom then moved to the United States.
Shalom said she thought moving to the United States would make things different, but nothing changed. She said she was forced to endure constant staring and bullying.
Shalom further said she came to a point where she thought taking her own life would simply just end her years of misery. Shalom has now found her calling as a make up artist; she said she no longer feel terrible or regrets about what happened.
