21 yr old murder suspect slips hand cuffs and escaped before a death penalty hearing

Dayonte Resiles, 21, is awaiting trial for killing a woman, Jill Halliburton Su, grand-niece of the founder of the Halliburton oil Company, Erie P. Halliburton.

Dayonte Resiles slipped out of his shackles and escaped from a courthouse Friday just before a hearing on whether he would face the death penalty.

A surveillance video shows Dayonte Resiles escaping through an outside north door at the downtown courthouse. His black and white jail jumpsuit and shackles were left behind.

Several hours after Dayonte Resiles escaped, the courthouse was evacuated. No one was injured in the escape.

According to police report, Jill Halliburton's body was found dead in the bathtub of her home in Davie, Florida, 2014 with both her hands and feet bounds and stabbed multiple times.

Prosecutors say Dayonte Resiles killed Jill Halliburton during an attempted burglary.  Dayonte Resiles has pleaded not guilty and his attorney is trying to get the death penalty off the table.

The authorities says it's unclear how Dayonte Resiles removed the shackles and escaped.
