45 years old Philip Spurlock has been arrested and charged for using his 7 year old son as a human shield when a police officer pointed a gun at him in West Virginia, United States.
Philip Spurlock allegedly grabbed his child from his seat after police stopped him for talking on his mobile phone while driving. Philip Spurlock was charged with kidnapping and child neglect.
The police in a statement said an officer tried to conduct a traffic stop on Philip Spurlock. The officer then asked Philip Spurlock why he was pulled over. Philip then started to argue with the police officer and then fled the scene in his car with his 7 years old at the passenger side of the car.
The police officer chased him with the police vehicle through residential areas before Philip Spurlock stopped his car.
The police officer got out of the vehicle and pointed his gun at Philip Spurlock ordering him to get out of the car and get on the ground.
Philip Spurlock got out of the car but instead of him getting on the ground, he ran around to the passenger side of the vehicle and grabbed his 7 year old son to use as human shield.
The officer then put his gun away before Philip Spurlock ran again, this time around on foot, and dragging his 7 year old son along with him.
The police chased him again targeting him in the leg with a baton, the police then tried to cuff himbut Philip continuously resisted arrest.
The police officer then pulled out pepper spray to use on him, but Philip Spurlock again tried to use his 7 year old child as a human shield before he finally fell to the ground. He was then hand cuffed and arrested.
The boy's mother later picked him up, while the father and husband remained in custody and was charged with kidnapping and child neglect.
