A 34 year old man, Stephen Ngila Thenge, a Kenyan nationality chopped off the both hands of his 28 years old wife of 7 years with a cutlass because she cannot have children.
The relatives of 28 years old Jackline Mwende said the couples had been having problems and she always wanted to leave him but was advised against leaving her husband by their pastor
Jackline Mwende who is also nursing injuries on her head and neck from the gruesome attack said before the attack, they had been separated for about 3 months because they couldn't have children.
Jackline Mwende said she couldn't understand why her husband was blaming her for the childlessness.
She said they had both gone to hospital last year and the doctor had said he was the one with problems, and that the problems can be corrected.
She said her husband who refuses to follow up on treatment moved out of the house 3 months ago, only to show up on Sunday around 8.30pm with a cutlass.
Jackline Mwende said when she opened the door, he said ‘today is your last day’ and started slashing her with the cutlass.
Jackline Mwende said her husband fled when she screamed out loud for help, when neighbours arrived, they were all afraid to touch me, they thought I was dead.
I was rushed to Machakos Hospital where I was given painkillers and got a blood transfusion. I was discharged on Friday.
The man was arrested on Monday July 25 in Machakos town hours after he fled his home in Masii.
