Over 800 stray dogs have been poisoned to death in the Pakistani city of Karachi as part of the government's control measures to cub stray dogs. The killings came into effect following persistent complaints from residents.
The municipal authorities kept poisoned meat in different places to lure the starving dogs in order to kill them.
The authorities said that the number of dogs killed across Karachi, a city with a population of more than 20 million, is still unavailable but warn it may run into thousands.
Animal rights activists have condemned the practice of killing the stray dogs and want the authorities to adopt humane methods to dealing with the situation.
