symptoms of kidney infection

Unfortunately in some cases, the symptoms may not even become present until the condition is critical so this makes knowing and recognizing the symptoms crucial.

Here are the top 10 signs of kidney disease that you need to be aware about:

1. Changes in urinary function

The first tell-tale sign of kidney disease is changes in the amount of how many times you urinate. You can see a dramatic increase or decrease in the amount of urine you pass at times, you might also notice your urine change into a darker color, you might also feel the extreme urge to urinate but unable to when you get to the restroom.
The bottom line is that, if you sense a change in your urinary function, it's best to start paying attention and making notes of your daily visits to the washroom. If you have difficulty or pain while urinating, or you feel pressure while trying to empty your bladder, this could mean that you've developed a urinary tract infection that is easily curable, but it is best to catch it early because it has the potential to spread to the kidneys.

2. When you see blood in your urine:

This is one of the symptoms that cannot be missed and should be a cause for concern. Blood in the urine is a direct symptom of kidney disease, you need to visit your doctor immediately. Blood in the urine could also be associated to several bladder diseases or cancer.

3. Foamy urine

You will probably thinking why a lot of these symptoms have to do with the bladder? It is because the bladder and the Kidneys are so connected. The bladder is the first to be affected if the kidneys are failing.

4. Swelling

The kidney is responsible for removing waste and fluids in the body. When the kidney finds it hard doing its responsibility, waste and extra fluids build up in the body, when this occurs, the person affected will be experiencing swelling in the feet, ankles, puffiness in the face, and tightness in their hands.

5. Extreme fatigue

When the kidneys are functioning properly they are producing hormones called erythropoietin. Erythropoietin helps the red blood cells carry oxygen. But when the kidneys start to fail of malfunction, the levels of this hormones are dropped drastically. This sudden drop in red blood cells will cause the body to become weak and fatigued.

6. Dizziness and inability to concentrate

When the kidneys are failing, the affected persons will become fatigued, this is caused by lack of oxygen and so it affects the brain. This may cause the affected person to become dizzy. The affected person may also find it difficult to concentrate. When the brain lacks oxygen, it functions slowly.

7. Feeling constantly cold

When your body becomes anemic, which can be caused by kidney disease. It can cause you to become cold in areas that are warm.

8. Skin rashes and itching

This symptom can often be confused with other conditions and allergies. A kidney disease or failure what causes a waste buildup in the blood, this causes severe itching and skin rashes.

9. Vomiting

If the kidneys are failing, the affected person will experience constant nausea and vomiting. It won't be a one-time thing, the affected persons will be experiencing this more often than should be.

10. Shortness of breath

When the kidney diseases become severe, it causes a buildup of fluid in the lungs which can leave you with a feeling of breathlessness.

It is important to also note:

If you have any of these symptoms, it does not necessarily mean that you have a kidney damage, many of these symptoms are part of other diseases and infections, but they are worth looking into
