The acting Governor of Kano State, Nigeria, Hafiz Abubakar has today ordered the shutting down of Hassan Gwarzo College after reports surfaced that homosexual acts were widespread at the said institution.  The acting governor directed that the shutting down of the school should be implemented immediately. In addition, Mr. Abubakar disclosed that the state government had appointed a 14 member committee to investigate the allegations that students at the school engaged in homosexual acts. The committee is expected to submit its report within two weeks. Nigeria Law bans same sex relationship, marriage, etc. Any violation  of this sort attracts a 14years jail sentence.

Nigeria's telecoms regulator said it has set a November 16 deadline for South African mobile giant MTN and Nigeria’s largest network provider to pay the sum of $5.2 billion fine for missing a deadline to disconnect unregistered users SIM cards.  Sometimes in August, NCC issued a directive to all mobile telecommunication companies operating in Nigeria to deactivate all unregistered SIM cards within seven days or face severe sanctions.  MTN Africa's largest telecoms firm which had more than 62.8 million subscribers in Nigeria missed the deadline to deactivate its 5.1 million unregistered subscribers, prompting a 200,000 Naira ($1,000) fine for each unregistered SIM.  The penalty saw the company's shares crash on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and raised questions about the renewal of its license in Nigeria next year if the fine goes unpaid. Under the law, the NCC's has the power to grant or revoke permits.

A U.S. Navy destroyer sailed within 12 miles of China’s made artificial islands in the South China Sea. This is a direct challenge to Beijing that raises the stakes in an expanding, multination territorial dispute.  China had earlier warn the US it will not stand for violations of its territorial waters in the name of freedom of navigation, as the United States considers sailing warships close to China's artificial islands in the South China Sea. Lebanese security forces arrested and charged a Saudi prince for an illicit drugs on his private plane. Two tons of narcotics was allegedly retrieved from the prince private aircraft. Abd al-Muhsen bin Walid bin Abd al-Aziz Al Saud was detained and interrogated in Beirut's Rafik Hariri International Airport. He was about to take a flight on his private plane to Saudi Arabia. The prince was arrested along with four other people.
